Buick Enclave Vs Hyundai Palisade – a case of exceptional vs not bad
The Buick Enclave is becoming a nameplate to remember in the crossover SUV segment. With a great current rendition, a facelift coming in 2021, and a complete redesign programed for 2022, the next few years will go from great to even better for prospective buyers that lock eyes on this spectacular luxury crossover SUV.
The Hyundai Palisade is a new entry with many things working for it, many other features dividing opinion, and quite a few still trailing behind.
When it comes to looks, the Buick Enclave sports a modern-chic aesthetic. Its lines flow smoothly from the front grille creating a tear-drop effect. The car is smooth from every angle, easy on the eye, with no sharp aggressive curves in sight.
The Palisade is certainly modern. Maybe even too modern for its own good. The Hyundai’s exterior is looking like it’s trying way too much and the result is a polarizing design that you either love or hate. Considering how daring and over-the-top it is, we’re guessing more people will pass than there will sign up to own one.
Even assuming that looks are subjective, it’s hard to imagine how US prospective buyers will flock to something that would look alien-like even in Japan.
Under the hood there’s no room for subjectivity, it’s all numbers. And the Buick again wins. With its standard 3.6-liter V-6 that will produce 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, it is one head above Hyundai’s 3.8-liter V-6 that can only go as high as 291 horsepower. Not to mention that Palisade’s engine is quite a thirsty one at 19 miles per gallon in the city and 24 on the highway.
Inside, both cars delight. It’s the only sector where Hyundai matched Buick's high class. Nothing but top-shelf materials, impeccable craftsmanship, and loads of room for comfort. The list of standard features is comparable as well, with both cars offering an 8.0-inch color touch, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, among many others. Where the Palisade drops the ball though is the sluggish and dense infotainment system, a stark contrast to Buick's highly-responsive, flawless system.
It's not a close match between the Enclave and the Palisade. The Buick wins comfortably as Hyundai manages to hit a few good punches that leave the US viral unfazed, though.
