Fuel Efficient Chevrolet Vehicles for Connecticut Drivers
As competition in all car segments increases steadily over the years, some manufacturers forget what the targeted population wants in their automobiles. They add options and luxuries that some consumer segments would like to do without in exchange for a better price. Chevrolet did not fall into this trap and is still able to market incredibly low-priced cars. Two subcompacts and one compact sedan make the cut, so we'll talk about the Spark, the Sonic and the Cruze in this article.
The smallest and most affordable car out of the three is the Spark. Fun by nature, the car has a lively and cheerful exterior look, while the interior is fixated on efficiency and functionality, with a high roofline, fun upholstery patterns and painted plastic trim.
Under the hood is a capable 1.4-liter inline-4 engine that produces 98 horsepower and 94 pound-feet of torque. It will give 30 miles per gallon inside the city limits and 38 while on the highway, both respectable numbers for its class. Its fuel efficiency and the small dimensions that make it easy to park anywhere make it one of the most city-friendly cars out there.
Where the Chevrolet Spark truly impresses, however, is when it comes to standard features. The list of tech available even on the basic version of the model is on par with that of cars two to three classes above the subcompact segment. Every Spark comes equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen situated in the middle of the dash, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 2 USB ports (the industry average for this class is just one), a 4G LTE antenna to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth connectivity. Just one trim level above the basic line you’ll get perks like keyless entry and alloy wheels for a small bump in price.
A step up the ladder, both in size and price, and we find the Sonic. Defined by a subdued yet stylish exterior design that got a complete makeover just two years ago, the Sonic offers a comfortable and extremely quiet interior to match its overall relaxed vibe.
The increased size came with a much more powerful engine, in the form of a 1.4 turbocharged inline-4 that will put out 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. It doesn't do so at fuel economy's expense since it will give 28 miles per gallon inside the city and 37 on the highway, impressive considering the engine power.
Just like the Spark, the Chevrolet Sonic has a long list of standard tech it comes equipped with. A 7.0-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, or a 4G LTE antenna to set up Wi-Fi hotspot can be found in all models, while just a trim level above the factory settings you'll get upgrades like cruise control, chrome trims, 15-inch alloy wheels, and a 6-speaker sound system.
The last, but certainly not least, is the Cruze. A long-time fleet favorite, the model has a completely new look for 2019 as well as upgraded technology.
The new elegant, suave exterior design makes the model look much pricier than it is while the interior delivers on the quality at an affordable price promise.
Under the hood two engine choices are available. The gas option is a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 that will produce an impressive 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. The diesel powertrain is a 1.6-liter turbodiesel capable of reaching an output of 137 horsepower and a whopping 240 pound-feet of torque, making the Cruze a wonderful car to drive around town where acceleration is much more important than raw power or top speed.
Chevrolet didn’t forget the main driver behind this consumer’s segment reason to buy, so the Chevrolet Cruze is still a very fuel-friendly car, capable of running 28 miles per gallon inside the city limits with the gas engine and 31 with the diesel. On the highway, those numbers are 38 MPG with gas and 37 on diesel.
Standard tech equipped on every model includes things like a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 2 USB ports, GM's OnStar concierge and safety service, while a small bump in price will provide you with upgrades like remote start, a moonroof feature, a Bose sound system, and heated seats.
