Safety features on the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer
Upon hearing the Trailblazer name, you might be tempted to think of the old version of this iconic nameplate and conjure images of a heavy, boxy, old-school SUV. But nowadays the Trailblazer is a small, chick, very aesthetically pleasing crossover that plans to attract with dashing looks, a remarkable interior, and a great cost-value ratio. And one of the things the 2021 Trailblazer impresses with is its long list of standard safety features.
Unlike most crossovers on the market that make you go for their top trims, thus spend top dollar, if you want to get active safety features equipped onto your car, the 2021 Trailblazer offers one of the most compelling base models in terms of safety with no fewer than seven high-tech safety features as standard.
Powered by a 1.2-liter Ecotec engine that can deliver 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, the Trailblazer L comes with a standard rearview camera plus the Teen Driver Technology that allows parents to set maximum limits on speed and audio levels so their teenage drivers can make better decisions on the road. More importantly, under the Trailblazer L, future owners get the Chevy Safety Assist package as standard.
What’s included in the Chevy Safety Assist Pack? Plenty!
First is the highly coveted Automatic Emergency Braking, an active safety feature that activates at speeds below 50 mph. Through the use of sensors, radar, and cameras, the system scans for imminent frontal crashes and sends out an alert as soon as it picks up on one. If the driver fails to hit the brakes in time, the system will automatically brake for them to diminish the impact of the crash or avoid it completely.
Above 50 mph future Trailblazer owners can rely on the Forward Collision Alert that does exactly what the previous safety system does, without applying the brakes. Built to increase driver awareness at high speeds, this safety feature will alert you instantly if you’re heading for a frontal collision so you can steer clear or hit the brakes to minimize it.
Another active safety feature that comes with the Trailblazer L is the Pedestrian Frontal Braking which acts exactly like the Automatic Emergency Braking only that it’s fine-tuned to pick up pedestrians in place of cars.
Following Distance Indicator is also included in the Chevy Safety Assist Package. Designed to prevent crashes not avoid them, this system helps drivers keep a safe distance from the car in front of them at all times so in the event that the vehicle they’re following will come to a sudden stop, they’ll still have plenty of time to hit the brakes and not crash into them.
Last but certainly not least is the Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. This active safety feature monitors the car's movements in relation to its current lane. If it senses the car is about to change lanes but there’s no turning signal turned on and the steering wheel is not moving in any direction, it will send out an alert to make the driver aware that they’re about to drift out of their current lane. If no action is taken, the system will automatically steer the car gently back in its lane.
With higher trims come even more safety features but with such a complete base model in terms of active safety tech, the Trailblazer makes for a great choice if you’re in the market for a chic, safe, and affordable crossover.
