Safety features on the 2021 Buick Envision
Few crossovers come as well-equipped when it comes to safety features as the 2021 Buick Envision. And fewer still can match its tantalizingly low price. In today's article, we'll take a look at Envision’s long list of standard safety tech to see what future owners can look forward to.
Produced in three trims, Preferred, Essence, and Avenir, the 2021 Envision comes with a standard 2.0-liter turbo Ecotec engine that will produce an impressive 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
Under the Preferred trim, which is the name of Envision’s base model, future owners will also receive what’s been dubbed the Buick Driver Confidence Plus Package. And it includes a ton of safety features, among which are some of the most coveted active safety systems on the market. Let’s take them one by one.
1. Automatic Emergency Braking
What will inevitably be part of the new golden safety standard, Automatic Emergency Braking is an active feature that's finding its way into more and more crossovers these days, but few offer it as standard. Through the use of sensors, cameras, and radar, the system monitors for imminent frontal crashes and sends out an alert as soon as one's registered. If the driver fails to hit the brakes in time, then the car will automatically brake for you to avoid the crash or at least lessen the severity of the impact. Designed for urban driving, the system is active below 50 miles per hour.
2. Forward Collision Alert
For speeds greater than 50 mph the system above will not brake automatically but it will continue to monitor the road ahead for imminent dangers and it will send out an alert when it picks up on one. The purpose of this system is to boost driver awareness on the road, especially at high speeds.
3. Front Pedestrian Braking
Just like the Automatic Emergency Braking, this system will monitor the road and hit the brakes automatically to stop a collision from happening. The only difference is that it's fine-tuned to detect pedestrians instead of cars. It too works at speeds below 50 mph.
4. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
Another very important active safety feature is the Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. It works in two stages, first sending out an alert as soon as it notices the car drifting out of its lane without the turning signal being turned on or the steering wheel moving in that direction. When no immediate action is taken following the alert, the car will gently steer itself back into its current lane.
5. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
Invaluable for when you’re backing away from a tight spot that significantly diminishes your visibility, this system monitors oncoming rear traffic from either side of the vehicle and sends out an alert when you’re in danger of hitting another vehicle while in reverse.
On top of the five safety features above, the 2021 Envision also comes with standard Rear Park Assist, IntelliBeam automatic high beams, and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert.
