The 2021 Buick Encore – a car so good it can’t be side-lined
When Buick announced the introduction of the Encore GX, we all expected that the Encore model would get retired. After all, the GX is Encore's brand-new rendition, specifically created to replace the iconic crossover as it passes the torch on.
But the Encore is so good and still attracts so many prospective buyers that Buick kept the model in production.
We here at O'Neill's Chevrolet Buick in Avon, Connecticut, based on our decades of experience selling Buick cars, think that’s a great idea! The Encore has a lot more to say and there's a good reason for all the sales it generates.
So, what makes the 2021 Buick Encore such a good crossover?
1. Tried-and-true powertrain
All Buick Encores come with the same reliable 1.4-liter in-line four-cylinder gas engine that can be ordered with front- or all-wheel drive. Coupled with a responsive six-speed automatic transmission, it will deliver 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque which, considering the car’s small dimensions and weight, it’s plenty!
With front-wheel drive, future owners can expect 30 miles per gallon on the highway and 25 inside the city limits and under the all-wheel-drive setup 29 mpg and 24 respectively.
2. Superb interior
The Encore still sports one of the best interiors in its class, not to mention how exceptionally good it is for its price tag. With nothing but soft-touch materials in its cabin, the Encore can transport up to 5 adults, or 4 in absolute comfort.
Other exceptional features on the Encore 2021 make up the Buick QuietTuning technologies. The manufacturer describes them best as “triple door seals and acoustic laminated glass in the windshield and front side windows help reduce, block and absorb unwanted noise, so you can better enjoy conversations with passengers, the premium sound system or quiet time for yourself.”
Plenty of cargo space to boot as the Encore has 48.4 cubic feet behind the second row, quite impressive for a small-sized SUV and more than enough for most trips to Home Depot, the farmer’s market, or the beach.
3. Exceptional trim levels
The Encore is great value for money in all its trim, starting with the base model. For a little above $23,000, future owners will get keyless entry with push-button ignition, an 8-inch color touchscreen complete with Buick’s latest infotainment system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Many will also want to add the available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot to this list of standard features.
The available upgrade dubbed the Buick Encore Preferred is what most buyers will go for as it comes with everything under the base model, to which it adds all-wheel drive, remote start, a sunroof, a 120-volt power outlet, and a rear vision camera.
Two safety packages are available only on the Preferred trim.
• Safety Package I: Blind-spot monitoring, Rear cross-traffic alert
• Safety Package II: Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Front and rear parking sensors, Rain-sensing wipers
