Buick Encore GX safety features – punching way above its price tag
The Buick encore has delighted many drivers over the years. With its over-delivering and adorkable demeanor, the Encore is the perfect small crossover for families.
Lately, it seemed like it needed an upgrade and Buick delivered it in the form of the Encore GX, the next generation Encore. Although they bear the same name, the two crossovers are almost completely different vehicles, united only by their small, compact size. Although, the Gx is quite a bit bigger than the Encore, but not as big as the Envision.
The fact that the Encore is kept in production even after the introduction of its predecessor is a testament to its remarkable value. Even so, the GX looks like the better choice regardless of what aspect you look at.
With exterior looks squarely in favor of the GX as it sports sharp, modern lines, that give it a more sophisticated look over the Encore, the interior is also more welcoming and more spacious (up to 4.5 extra cubic feet of cargo space).
Under the hood, the GX can be fitted with one of two options – the default 1.2-liter three-cylinder that produces 137 horsepower and the 1.3-liter three-cylinder that produces 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. The larger engine, despite the added power, manages to deliver 31 miles per gallon combined, a figure well above the class average.
As far as standard features go, the GX has plenty. All models come equipped with a superb 8.0-inch color touch that's very responsive and has an outstanding resolution. It's coupled with GM's latest software interface to create what many consider to be the best infotainment system this side of $40,000. Keyless entry and start, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth audio streaming, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are all standard perks on the brand-new 2020 Encore GX.
But where the GX truly exceeds all expectations are safety features. First of all, the GX comes with a suite of standard active safety features that most high-end crossovers don't offer on their base models. Future owners can expect automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision alert with following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and cruise control.
But you can also fit your Encore GX with adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera mirror, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, an automated parking system, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
That’s pretty much every advanced safety feature available today, on any model, in any class.
So is the Encore GX a safe car? Definitely!
